On Thursday, June 15, 2023, Sudbury's Idylwylde Golf and Country Club played host to a very special, and meaningful, tournament.
The Palladino Auto Group held its annual Golf Classic, with the aim of raising funds for the NEO Kids Foundation. The tournament raises money for pediatric services at Health Sciences North, as well as awareness in general about the healthcare needs of children in our community and the growing need for specialized services in Northeast Ontario.
NEO Kids is the first children's health centre in this part of the province and its existence is critically important. It means families in the region can avoid having to travel all the way to Toronto, or beyond, to seek specialized pediatric treatment for their kids.
If there was ever any doubt that Sudbury residents care deeply about pediatric care in Northeast Ontario, this was the day that proved their devotion. They managed to raise an astounding $200,500 in a single day, all thanks to the efforts of the 160 golfers, sponsors and volunteers who so enthusiastically supported this incredible and important cause.
President and CEO of the Palladino Auto Group, Vince Palladino, is especially grateful for the support shown by the community. "We had some really incredible sponsors at our event this year, as well as dedicated volunteers," he says.
The recent history of the Golf Classic
Vince Palladino took over the Brian Savage Mulligans for NEO Kids Golf Classic from his lifelong friend Brian Savage in 2015. "We have been fortunate to surpass our fundraising goals each year--having raised over $930,000 to date," says Vince. Along with the tournament, the Palladino family personally donated $500,000 in November of 2016.
"We take great pride in hosting the Palladino Auto Group Golf Classic for NEO Kids. This golf tournament is about members of our community coming together to support pediatric care and the health of children and youth in Northeast Ontario," says Vince, adding, "That is what we are committed to do for years to come."
How the funds raised are used
The funds raised by the annual Golf Classic are used to support the health of children and youth in Northeast Ontario in several ways: through the purchase of medical equipment, investments in capital and other programs advancing patient care for children, youth and their families.
